By Monika Resetar, ISCA

ISCA’s Integration of Refugees Through Sport (IRTS) Networking Platform, which has already connected more than 70 EU project leaders and stakeholders in sport and inclusion, is now making 5 online opportunities open to even more people working in this field to meet, learn, gain recognition for their initiatives, and connect with each other. So we invite you to join us at our free IRTS Virtual Networking webinars – starting on Wednesday 17 March.

The main goal of the webinars is to share experiences and make connections between organisations working with refugees. At the same time, the webinars will contribute to the creation of the second IRTS online course: Learning from experts and examples.

COVID-19 – or when control and planning are overrated
Our first networking webinar, on Wednesday 17 March from 13.00-14.30 CET will be on the topic of COVID-19 and how it has impacted the work of sports organisations and clubs in their work with refugees. As we enter into 2021, going back to normal seems very far away and adapting to new normal might be the way to go. If there’s something we learned from 2020, it is that planning and having things under control in times of a pandemic can be very hard, but with flexibility, creativity and cooperation, we can adapt.

In this webinar we would like to showcase good examples of organisations and clubs on how they have adapted and delivered their activities in a safe way. We’ll dive into the challenges and potential solutions for both organisations and refugees.

In our introductory panel discussion with Katerina Salta from the International Olympic Truce Centre in Greece and Benjamin Renauld from Royal Europa 90 Kraainem Football Club (Kraainem FC) in Belgium, we will zoom in on their experiences. In the second part we’ll open up the discussion in smaller groups, where you’ll be able to share your experiences and learn from the other participants of the webinar.

In the upcoming months of 2021 we will hold more networking webinars, so SAVE THE DATES below and keep an eye on https://irts.isca.org/ for more information.

Never stop learning!
The second webinar will focus on sharing good practices and know-how on implementing training for staff, trainers and refugees, focusing on tools and examples.
12 May 13.00 – 14.30 CET

Step up with refugees!
Refugees need to be included and involved in activities as protagonists. Being proactive in sport can also help refugees gain various skills that can later contribute to their employment, education or training; therefore, we’d also like to showcase examples of that.
23 June 13.00 – 14.30 CET

Include everyone!
Among refugees there are various target groups that need different approaches. We’d like to share examples of involving female refugees, children, families, refugees with disabilities/special needs, LGBQTI, seniors, etc. in community sport.
15 September 13.00 – 14.30 CET

Work together for a bigger impact!
Collaboration and cooperation between different organisations, clubs, local authorities, schools and other stakeholders is important and can make a bigger impact on the target group as well as the local setting. We’d like to showcase examples of how that can be done.
10 November 13.00 – 14.30 CET

Registration will open 2 weeks before the webinars. Follow https://irts.isca.org/ for more information.
